The Bad ChexTuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Worthless Check Unit (WCU) was established in January of 1985. Prior to that time, victims of worthless checks were required to go through a long and inefficient process in order to prosecute an individual who’d presented them with a worthless check.
The Restitution moneyRecovery Unit (RRU) was formed in 1998 for the purpose of monitoring, tracking, and collecting restitution owed by convicted offenders to victims of crime. Since the office was established, over $6,721,000.00 in restitution, fines and court costs has been collected by the RRU.
The Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Child Support Unit acts as the legal counsel for the Tuscaloosa County Department of Human Resources (DHR). The Unit works in conjunction with DHR to establish & enforce child support orders and to prosecute deadbeat parents for failure to pay child support. The unit is made up of a director, two Deputy District Attorneys, and support staff.
The J32Victim Services Division of the District Attorney’s Office provides victims with support before, during, and after their cases are processed through the judicial system. It is our number one priority to provide personal assistance to all individuals who are victims of crime. The unit assists victims in filing the proper forms for the recovery of restitution and offers support during the judicial process.
